Do you need confidence for 2020?
Dec 08, 2019I’m not an “It’s a Wonderful Life" fan. I know, I’m probably the only person in the world who isn’t, but I’m just not. The holiday movie I could watch every year ~ that has NOTHING to do with Christmas ~ is “The Sound of Music.” There’s something so inspiring about Maria, and how she boldly defies the conventional stereotype expectations of the day, to figure out who she is and what she’s supposed to do. Richard Rogers, in his typical brilliant fashion, managed to put into words, exactly how I feel some days (like today), as well as what I’ve come to understand as my own inclination to be positive and confident.
Moving forward into something new, however, is always scary. January 1, 2020 isn’t just the beginning of a new year, it’s the beginning of a new decade. It holds the potential to be a seminal turning point in so many ways.
I know I’m not alone ~ you’re there too. You know this could be the start of something new, something big. But new things can be scary. How do we muster the confidence, the “knowing” it can be done, while not yet quite being there?
One of the things I’m focusing on for 2020, is setting big goals and figuring out how to achieve them. Dreaming is essential to that equation. If you don’t take the opportunity to allow yourself a big dream, then every goal will eventually fall short of where you desire to land.
Brendon Burchard calls this making DUMB goals: Dream Driven, Uplifting, Method Friendly and Behavior Triggered. Essentially, Dream Powered Goals… working toward the things that move your soul and serve others. My dream is to serve you. To help you achieve what you want, or need. To help you dream of those possibilities, and move you forward. Everything else is drudgery.
Your problems, challenges and obstacles, are things that can be overcome. I’m certain of that. All the nuts and bolts that are required to put together your amazing future might be scattered across the floor… in little plastic bags with letters and numbers on them that supposedly line up with an unclear “key.” However, step one is the only thing you need to tackle. As long as you keep the big picture in mind, you can see where you’re going. This is Dream Powered Goals.
Trust me, even when you (or others) think your dreams are too big, each step you take toward them builds your confidence. Each step gives you the courage to take the next, and eventually, you find you are 10, 20, 50 steps down the road ~ and the dream seems closer and somehow more attainable. As I work with clients, or speak to business women’s groups, I find that the simple, basic things have fallen off the radar. These principles and ideas that we all need to be reminded of, are the individual steps I help you take in order to build up the momentum you need to reach your ultimate goals.
The sun shines on the fortunate and the unfortunate… and rain isn’t bad. Just ask all my farmer friends. This is what Intentional Optimism is about. When you’re willing to take the “good” with the “bad,” and see them both as ingredients for the full recipe, then you have hope in what will come as a result. This is the philosophy with which I approach my own work, and how I work with clients. Many times, it’s the balance or the exact encouragement they need to stretch for that next level.
So, is it time for you to step out on a whole new adventure? What is your dream for 2020 and the decade it inaugurates? It might not feel financially feasible. It my feel crazy. Maybe it’s something no one expects of you… maybe it’s just stepping your whole game up a couple of notches. What do you need to do in order to make it happen? Make a plan? Improve your skills? Perhaps it’s time to get some help and reach those goals you set.
I promise, you have enough information to move - even if it’s only one step at a time. You can always change direction, if necessary, so move forward with courage. As Marie Forleo says “everything is figureoutable.”
I’m not saying it will be easy - boy, do I understand it isn’t. Here’s the thing. You’re not alone. Not only am I building a global community of women helping women… I'm here to help you, one on one. I can help you figure out how to map out those dreams, make a plan, and put it into action.
I have several one on one coaching slots open for the first half of 2020. Fill out an application, and let’s talk about how I can help you step into 2020 with a whole new confidence in you!
